W H Y  G A B R I E L L A  M O N T E Z  I S  A  R U D E,   I R R E V A L E N T  P O T A T O   

Hello, I’m Kathy, I think Sharpay was framed. If you are a diehard High School Musical fan (HSM for short), you should know the first few things Sharpay says when you meet her in the movie. She states that she’s been seventeen school productions. You may think that’s a lot, right? Exactly. In the first movie, she is a junior in high school. This concludes that she is around sixteen to seventeen years old. Since she  probably wasn’t doing plays when she was a newborn, this information illustrates that she’s done one to two plays a year starting since kindergarten. For someone who hasn’t quit yet, this means she loves the stage and it is obviously a passion of hers.  

Step in her shoes, she’s been preparing for a huge role in her school winter play. If you note closely, you’ll know that no other person auditioned for her part. However, she spent weeks coming up with her own number and choreography for her audition. If no one auditioned for the part except for her, this should mean she automatically gets the part. However, she wanted to show that she really cared about this and was putting in her own effort. Alright, so back into her point of view, you’ve been working hard and all of a sudden this new girl pops in. She’s super friendly with your crush? Of course you’re upset, you’re preparing for a play. You don’t have time for this! What is she doing now? She’s suddenly deciding to sign up for the play. Someone with no passion, dedication, or experience suddenly tries to sign up and take your role. With your crush. Who wouldn’t be annoyed? Your dreams at the stake!  Whatever, you’ve got to just perform as best as you can. You’ve creating your own soundtrack to best fit your style, and make sure you and your brother know all the steps. You perform and Ms. Darbus is thrilled. She is your drama teacher and an idol who’ve you worked with for what seems like forever. 

Gabriella Montez and long time crush, Troy Bolton don’t even perform. They lack the drive and motivation to even get on the stage. You take a deep breath of relief and are glad that your hard work paid off. Or… did it?  After you’ve left, the both of them decide at the last minute to intrude and perform their own rendition of your own song. No choreography and planning. Your own amazing Ms. Darbus gives them the roles. Everything is crashing, your dreams, and all of your hard work. You’ve lost everything. Your passion. Your dreams. Your crush. Not only that but neither of them are a hundred percent down to perform. At the last minute they both decide not to do the play.  

Wouldn’t you be a tad annoyed? I could go on about how in the second movie, Gabriella becomes jealous and whiny. Gabriella gets mad and leaves Troy for talking to Sharpay and for putting a scholarship before her. This concludes my essay on why Gabriella is a rude, and a stuck up potato. Thank you for reading. If you’re watching a HSM movie pay close attention to Gabriella and maybe your views will change. 

Another 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette' Prompt

Being a menace to society sounds so threatening? I feel like being productive and being happy sounds like too much a generic answer. I guess what I should always do is to just be kind. I don't want to hold myself to an impossible standard that I probably can't keep and then worry about whether I'm a menace or not. Being kind is a simple thing to do. I like it when people are kind to me and I'm sure they agree (wow so surprising). Being kind is cool. Oh no, this sounds like one of the anti-bullying posters that everyone ignores in the middle school hallway. ALL I'M SAYING IS THAT handing out flowers to strangers (oddly specific but okay) is COOL. Baking cookies for your friends as a surprise is COOL. Complimenting a stranger's sense of style or humor is COOL. That's why I should always be kind because it's a menace to society to not be kind.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

On page 43, Bee and a friend claim that they are bored while riding in the car. Bernadette pulls over and teaches her daughter and the friend this lesson: “You’re bored. And I’m going to let you in on a little secret about life. You think it’s boring now? Well, it only gets more boring. The sooner you learn it’s on you to make life interesting, the better off you’ll be.”

I find Bernadette's statement to speak a lot of truths even though it's really harsh to say to a child. If you keep a certain mindset early on, it will continue. I agree with Bernadette but at the same time, if you continue to dwell on the future, you're never truly living in the present. If you feel bored, you're just bored. You shouldn't stress about whether or not you should be bored, just because you're going to be bored in the future.

I was bored A L O T when I was growing up. My parents had to work so I was often at my grandparents' home. They didn't have cable or internet. As a little kid, TV was basically the source of all fun. However, once 5 o'clock struck, all of the kids shows ended for a day and a bunch of boring informative TV started. To help with boredom, I would explore my grandparents' home. I'd find a lot of antiques and weird things. I'd play in their garden and pretend to have my own cooking show. I would find a bunch of things in the kitchen and mix them together (I was a pain to watch). I'd jump on the bed and do a bunch of dumb things. I ended up being a lot less bored with my creativity but there was always a whole in my heart when PBS kids ended for the day.

Is it a Problem?

 I T   I S   A   P R O B L E M. 

Gun reform is definitely an issue. Mass shooting and debate around gun control seem to control the media constantly. As someone who has grown in the midst of school schoolings and an alarming rise of deadly gun violence, I'm so worried about how desensitized I've come to it all. It seems as if the United States has an extremely high amount of gun violence compared to other well developed countries. Sadly, that is a fact.The United States has more gun violence than any other first country in the world. With 40,000 deaths a year, it is a major issue. In fact, just one death from gun violence should make it an issue.

F I X I N G   I T.

I don't think that the gun violence will ever come to a complete end. Gun violence will continue prevailing but we need to make more strides to preventing it from happening. I'm tired of constantly seeing news articles of school shootings and wondering what are the chances of that happening to me. We should have universal background checks. We should also ban bump stocks and semi-automatic rifles.

I feel as if lots people say that gun control doesn't work or that it would prevent mass shootings. Of course, no certain way of gun reform/control will bring a complete end to gun violence. However, you have to look at other countries such as Australia or Japan. The United States has the highest amount of violence while being one of the wealthiest. Ways of solving the violence differs per person but it is an issue that should absolutely be discussed.

T H E   R E L A T I O N S H I P

The method of telling stories by mouth has changed throughout time, however, the essence of oral tradition has been kept alive. The oral traditions from our ancestors give obvious cues to the heritage and cultural traditions of the past. Our ancestors told stories in multitude of languages and with unique cultural aspects. With the rise of globalization, radio plays and podcasts often lack a distinctly cultural dimension. However, they provide a view into society through subtle ways. The War of the Worlds, a radio play preformed in 1938, is an example. The audience's reaction gives us insight into a culture of anxiety due to the Great Depression and WWII. The relationship between our ancestors' oral traditions, mid-century radio plays, and modern oral storytelling is held by their ability to capture the culture of the past.

T H E   C Y C L E

We continue to tell stories because it allows us to connect and relate to others. It allows us to comprehend and make sense of our changing world and the people around us. The cycle continues because we not only learn from our experiences but we share them. Story-telling, especially from oral tradition, is essential to our existence because it embodies how we live.

We enjoy listening to stories because they shape how we see and feel the world. Story-telling is extremely versatile. It can being as simple as one person recounting an event or as complex as a group of people putting on a radio play. It allows us to experience and to fantasize a different world or life. Story-telling is appealing as it brings words to life and engages our emotions.

I have no idea what to write.
If you want to know me, here's basically me in a nutshell: dogs, true crime shows, self deprecating comments, (really really dead) vine references, The Office, hiking, dad jokes, and procrastination.

H O B B I E S

I love, love, love hiking. I love photography as well. So, *surprise* I photograph a lot of nature-esque things (boom it works out). Along with artsy things, I've been practicing lettering and calligraphy for about four years now. I spend way too long making my notes look pretty especially for biology but I don't even use my notes to study (big oops).

Q  U i R k Y   T H I N G S   A B O U T   M E

I adore dogs but I don't have one so that really sucks. I probably make a reference to The Office in every conversation I have which really annoys my friends. I binge watch true crime shows like Dateline. That never works out though because I'm actually so weak and I lose so much sleep over those. Hey, but my crime knowledge is solid. If you ever text me, I will spam you with Gavin memes because he is my internet son and I love him.
